Autumn update

The darkness comes early these days and in the more intemperate parts of the world the leaves have long since began their stunning transcendence into contrasting shades of orange, yellow and red. This is by far my favorite time of year.

I’ve been hearing lots of great feedback from the release of Soft Focus. Lots of kind words and they’re very appreciated. I thought it was time to discuss my next release. It will be an EP, and will be out next year on Drifting Falling. It was written a couple of years ago when I was on holiday in Japan but the finishing touches have only recently settled into place. I haven’t settled on a definite name for it yet, so I won’t be spilling that today, but I do have a base track listing which I hope to augment with some remixes. The track listing is as follows:

Mountain Mist
Sunset from the 16th Floor
Paper Cranes
One Thousand Red Stars

I have another project in the pipeline as well. Right now it’s about 6 tracks that may or may not develop into more. But I expect that it’s a little further down the path than the EP at this point. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Mid-Summer update

Just got back from a much needed vacation to Napa, San Francisco and Monterey.

Just a quick update, I’m finishing a remix for band called Kontakte. The song is called Two a Half Thousand and Miles. They’re a great band that you should definitely check out if you haven’t.

Also, I’m just finishing the linear notes for Soft Focus, then it’s off to press. To be released later this summer.

Finally, there’s another project that I’m working on… an EP that I wrote most of a couple of years ago while I was on holiday in Japan. It looks like there will be 4 tracks, even though I originally started with 6, unless I can scrape together some remixes or collaborations. No release date on that yet, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

A newly delivered power supply is currently plugged into my laptop. In fact this post is being typed from that laptop. Time to make some music.

Recording and setbacks

I’m five songs into working on the new Oppressed by the Line disc, and my laptop’s power supply has quit working. At least I HOPE it’s the power supply! My laptop has lost the ability to charge (or even work) from wall power. The result was a panicked emergency back up of most of my harddisk, using the remaining battery power. Utterly shit. Utterly annoying. So essentially my laptop is collecting dust. The disc is on mothballs until I can sort this out.

I’ve put through an order for a replacement power supply from the manufacturer..but unfortunately it had to be ordered from the US and shipped to a US address…I live in London so this is a bit of an issue. I’ve managed to have it sent to a stateside family member, and will hopefully be up and working again soon. However, this downtime has already stretched on for some 3 weeks and is growing tiresome.

My desktop PC is knackered and inadequate in almost every way, so it’s not an option. In the meantime, I’m catching up on my reading.

DJ set from M83 show

In the audio section, I’ve added a set that was recorded while I DJed an M83 show back in December 2004. It’s a good snapshot of what music I was into at the time, and is guaranteed to induce head bobbing or foot tapping. It’s a pretty huge file, so I’ll host it as long as I dont start having bandwidth issues. Enjoy.

Afterglow

I sit in the dim glow of my laptop screen late on a Sunday evening with the warm comforting feeling of accomplishment flowing through me, knowing that:

the mixing of my mini-album is completely finished and
four of the six tracks have been mastered

What this means is that the debut OBTL release is just around the corner. If you’d like a preview, you can hear 4 of the 6 premastered final mixes on my myspace page.
